Landenberg Native Becomes Debut Author at 22 Years Old

Will Kleman has taken an unconventional leap into creative storytelling with the release of his debut novel, Bygones Volume I: Jome’s Secret, writes Gabbie Burton for Chester County Press.

The 22-year-old Landenberg native and Villanova University student self-published the book on Amazon’s publishing platform in March during his senior year.

It marks his first attempt at fiction writing. Blending elements of fantasy and coming-of-age themes, the novel introduces two brothers whose adventures challenge the rules of their homeland.

Kleman, who studied economics and computer science, spent four years crafting the story, starting in high school and continuing through college. Drawing inspiration from classics like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, he didn’t stop at the written word. Kleman also composed an original seven-track soundtrack to accompany the novel, working with his father and local musicians to bring the story’s settings and moods to life.

The multi-talented creator reflected on the long process, balancing creativity with academics.

“Starting out I think is the hardest thing, but once you’re in, I think you’ll see that it’s not as hard and it’s actually fun to do it as you keep going,” he said.

Now, Kleman is planning a sequel and dreams of one day adapting his series into a film.
